Description Behind an impressive facade added in 1857, this historic coaching inn dates back to the 16th century. Our hotel has long been Hereford's most popular hostelry offering a warm welcome and informal atmosphere. The hotel is just along the street from the cathedral and Mappa Mundi Exhibition. Our 83 rooms are non-smoking, and are all with en-suite facilities, hair dryer, tea and coffee making facilities and early morning calls available as well as newspaper delivery. Our rooms are scattered over three upper floors and have all the high ceilings, thick walls, and squeaky floors. Enjoy a romantic meal in Shire's Restaurant and maybe a glass or two of wine to compliment it. The Green Dragon is an ideal location for your meeting or conference. | Overall - "Overall, a very pleasant stay over 3 nights. Staff very attentive. By booking online, I received a substantial discount; I would advise you to do similar as I consider the normal tariffs are expensive for the general standard of room and decor. The whole hotel, whilst comfortable, feels like it needs a general refurbishment - a feeling of faded grandeur. This extends to the room; whilst well equipped, it was on the dark side and I found the bed a little uneven/uncomfortable. However, as I say, a pleasant stay at what was obviously a popular hotel." | |

| Bad points - "Needs an overall complete refurbishment. Atmosphere of faded grandeur. Peeling paintwork; dreary and dark rooms - though nothing specific to fault. Hot water had to be run for several minutes before it appeared. Breakfast could be freshly cooked as opposed to buffet-style piles of cooked food going gradually cold. I thought breakfast expensive @ £10 for its general quality." | |
