Description
John o' Groats is normally portrayed as being the northern-most point of mainland Britain, but in fact it is the fourth in line for the title, after Cape Wrath, St. John's Point (near Scarfskerry) and Dunnet Head. Dunnet Head was an RAF radar station during the 2nd World War and the antenna systems and old buildings are still in evidence on Burifa Hill. Brough is the most northerly village on the UK mainland and officially on Dunnet Head. Old maps show the property as the Brough Post Office and on even older maps, as an Inn. The property was completely rebuilt in the 1930s and extensively renovated by the previous owners, Mr. and Mrs. John Eden, some years ago We are 15 minutes from either the Scrabster or John o' Groats ferry to the Orkney Islands. Scrabster is a foot and car/lorry roll on/off ferry with connections to the Shetlands Islands, whilst John o' Groats is a foot passenger ferry. Both have day trip coach tour facilities. If there are any questions you would like to ask about this region, we will try to help. Please allow a couple of days for a reply out of season. Every Tourist Board member, no matter what their classification, has good clean accommodation, it is a requirement of being a member. We are keen to look after you, the customer, in a way we would wish to be looked after ourselves, that is our priority. We have excellent views over the sea as the photos show you. We will do our best to look after you well, that is our promise.
