Overall - "We've been staying at Brook House for many years as it gave us all that we could have wanted for a holiday in Eskdale - fantastic location, coupled with excellent food, beer and wine, very friendly hosts, and good accommodation. We moved up to Cumbria in 2004 and are now only an hour and a half from Brook House but it has taken us a couple of years to go back - very much our loss as it's great to report that Brook House remains the best place to stay in Eskdale. We visited for a post Christmas couple of days and very much enjoyed the warm welcome from the entire Thornley family, Gareth's excellent dinners (the duck was wonderful), and I was taken with Santa's Piste, one of the guest brews. Gareth is a creative and imaginative chef and the menu ranges from traditional pub fare to the changing specials (scallops, venison, excellent fish). The New Year menu looked spectacular and our only regret was that we weren't staying longer. The walking was first rate too!"
